George Weah

George Manneh Oppong Weah is a Liberian politician and former professional footballer. He became President of Liberia in January 2018 and served until January 2024. Internationally celebrated for his football career, Weah played as a striker for clubs including AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, and Chelsea, and he also represented Liberia’s national team. In 1995 he won the Ballon d’Or, becoming the first and only African player to receive the award, and was named FIFA World Player of the Year. After retiring from football, he entered politics and later led the country as head of state.
