George Weinberg

George Weinberg (1929–2017) was an American psychologist and psychotherapist known for coining the term “homophobia.” He helped bring the concept into public discussion and used it to describe fear or hostility toward gay people. Weinberg is best known as the author of *Society and the Healthy Homosexual* (1972), a book that argued against the pathologizing of homosexuality and challenged prevailing social attitudes of its time. Through his writing and clinical perspective, he contributed to broader debates about sexuality, stigma, and mental health in the United States.
