Georges Clemenceau

Georges Clemenceau (1841–1929) was a French statesman, journalist, and writer who played a decisive role in France’s politics during the Third Republic. A trained physician by education, he became a prominent radical republican and an influential newspaper editor and polemicist. Clemenceau served twice as Prime Minister of France, first in 1906–1909 and again from 1917 to 1920, leading the country through the final, critical phase of World War I. Nicknamed “The Tiger” for his combative style, he pressed for total victory and helped shape the postwar settlement at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.
