Guy Wetmore Carryl
Guy Wetmore Carryl (1873–1904) was an American humorist and poet known for light verse and satire. Born in New York City, he was the son of journalist and editor Charles E. Carryl. He studied at Columbia University and later worked as a journalist and editor, contributing witty poems and sketches to popular magazines including *Life* and *Harper’s*. Carryl gained lasting recognition for *Fables for the Frivolous* (1898), a collection of comic retellings of classic fables that ends with pointed, playful morals. His work blends polished rhyme with social observation and parody. Carryl died in New York City in 1904.
