H. M. Tomlinson

Henry Major Tomlinson (1873–1958) was an English journalist, travel writer, and essayist. He worked for the *Daily News* and later for the *Daily Chronicle*, reporting widely and developing a reflective, literary style of nonfiction. Tomlinson is best known for *The Sea and the Jungle* (1912), an account of a journey up the Amazon that blends travel narrative with philosophical observation. He also wrote novels, including *Gallions Reach* (1927). Across his work he explored the pull of the sea, the moral pressures of modern life, and the inner life of the traveler, earning a lasting reputation for evocative prose.
