Harold Geneen

Harold Geneen (1910–1997) was an American businessman and corporate executive best known for leading International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT). He served as ITT’s chief executive during a period when the company pursued major expansion and diversification, becoming a prominent example of the conglomerate era of the 1960s and 1970s. Geneen became widely associated with rigorous financial controls and a hard-driving management style, and he was frequently cited in discussions of corporate strategy and executive leadership. He also wrote about management and business practice, including the book *Managing*, contributing to popular and professional debates about how large organizations should be run.
