Harry S. Truman
Harry S. Truman (1884–1972) was the 33rd President of the United States, serving from 1945 to 1953 after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Born in Lamar, Missouri, he grew up in Independence and worked in farming and business before public service. Truman served in the U.S. Army during World War I and later entered politics in Missouri, becoming a U.S. Senator in 1935. As president, he oversaw the end of World War II and the early years of the Cold War. He also wrote memoirs and other public writings, including *Memoirs by Harry S. Truman* (1955–56).
