Harry Vardon
Harry Vardon (1870–1937) was a Jersey-born professional golfer who became one of the most influential figures in the sport’s early history. Turning professional in the late 19th century, he won The Open Championship a record six times (1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, 1914) and also captured the 1900 U.S. Open. Vardon helped popularize golf internationally through exhibition tours and public instruction, and his widely adopted “Vardon grip” shaped modern technique. He authored the instructional book *The Complete Golfer* (1905). Celebrated for his smooth swing and competitive consistency, Vardon remains a benchmark for championship golf.
