Hartley Coleridge
Hartley Coleridge (1796–1849) was an English poet, critic, and essayist, and the eldest son of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Born in Clevedon, Somerset, he grew up amid the literary circles of the Lake District and was closely associated with William Wordsworth and his family. Coleridge studied at Merton College, Oxford, but did not take a degree. He became known for his sonnets and for essays and reviews that appeared in periodicals, combining lyrical sensitivity with acute literary judgment. His principal poetry collection, *Poems* (1851), was published posthumously. He died in Rydal, Westmorland.
