Henny Youngman

Henry “Henny” Youngman was born in Liverpool, England in 1906, and his family moved to NYC when he was young. Youngman started his comedy career by writing and publishing “comedy cards” with one-liners on them. He was also a jazz violinist. Youngman eventually began working as a stand-up comedian, and became known for his rapidly delivered one-liners. He was performing as many as 200 nightclub shows a year by the 1940s. In 1959, Youngman recorded a live comedy album, which is still popular today. He also made numerous television appearances. Youngman never retired and continued performing until his final days. He died at age 91 in 1998.
