Henry Clay
Henry Clay (1777–1852) was an American statesman and renowned orator who became one of the most influential political figures of the early United States. Representing Kentucky, he served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and was elected Speaker of the House multiple times. Clay also served as U.S. Secretary of State under President John Quincy Adams. He was a leading advocate of the “American System,” promoting protective tariffs, a national bank, and internal improvements. Though not a literary author, Clay is remembered for major speeches and political writings that shaped national debates.
