Howard W. Hunter

Born in Boise, Idaho in 1907, Howard W. Hunter was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) at age 12. As a young man, Hunter was an Eagle Scout and loved music. After graduating high school, Hunter toured for five months with his band, “Hunter’s Croonaders,” aboard a cruise ship to Asia. Howard then moved to Southern California, where he worked as a banker and met his wife Clara May Jeffs. After marrying, Hunter became a lawyer and served several leadership positions in the LDS Church, including as a general authority and as an LDS apostle. In 1994, at age 86, Hunter became President of the Church. He served nine months before succumbing to prostate cancer.
