Hubert H. Humphrey
Hubert H. Humphrey (1911–1978) was an American politician who became a leading liberal voice in mid‑20th‑century U.S. public life. After serving as mayor of Minneapolis, he was elected to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota in 1948. Humphrey helped shape national debates on civil rights and social welfare and later served as the 38th vice president of the United States under President Lyndon B. Johnson (1965–1969). In 1968 he was the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. He returned to the Senate in 1971 and served until his death in 1978.
