Immanuel Kant

Immanuel Kant was brought up in a strict religious household in Königsberg, then the capital of Prussia. A bright pupil, Kant started studying philosophy at the University of Königsberg in 1740, at age 16, and would remain there for the rest of his career. Kant published his first philosophical work, Thoughts on the True Estimation of Living Forces, in 1747. A prolific writer and esteemed professor, Kant became an influential philosophical figure, arguing that reason is the source of morality. In 1881, Kant published his most notable work, The Critique of Pure Reason. In addition to the philosophy of metaphysics and ethics, Kant also contributed to other disciplines, including astronomy.
