Indira Gandhi

Indira Gandhi (1917–1984) was an Indian politician who served as Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. The daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, she rose through the Indian National Congress and became one of the country’s most influential leaders. Her tenure included the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh, the nationalization of major banks, and the declaration of the Emergency (1975–1977). Gandhi was known for forceful public speeches and political messaging that shaped modern Indian politics.
