Isabel Allende

Isabel Allende Llona (born August 2, 1942) is a Chilean-American novelist and journalist. Born in Lima, Peru, and raised largely in Chile, she began her career in journalism and later lived in exile after Chile’s 1973 military coup. Allende achieved international recognition with her debut novel, *The House of the Spirits* (1982), a multigenerational family saga blending history and the fantastic. She followed with acclaimed works including *Of Love and Shadows* (1984) and *Eva Luna* (1987). Her writing often explores memory, politics, love, and women’s lives across Latin America and beyond.
