Ivan Krastev

Ivan Krastev (born 1965) is a Bulgarian political scientist and public intellectual. He is chair of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna. Krastev writes widely on democracy, populism, and European politics, and is known for his analysis of post–Cold War Europe and the challenges facing liberal institutions. His books include *After Europe* and, with Stephen Holmes, *The Light That Failed*, which examines the political aftermath of 1989 and the rise of illiberal trends. He is a prominent commentator in European public debate.
