Jack Bogle

John C. “Jack” Bogle (1929–2019) was an American investor and author best known for founding The Vanguard Group and championing low-cost index investing. In 1975 he launched the first index mutual fund available to individual investors, the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, helping popularize the idea that broad market exposure and minimal fees can outperform many actively managed strategies over time. Bogle served as Vanguard’s chief executive and later as senior chairman, and he became a prominent advocate for investor-focused corporate governance and transparency. He wrote several books on investing, including *Common Sense on Mutual Funds* and *The Little Book of Common Sense Investing*.
