Jack Steinberger

Jack Steinberger (1921–2020) was a German-born American physicist whose work helped shape modern particle physics. Born in Bad Kissingen, Germany, he emigrated to the United States and later became a leading figure in high-energy physics research. Steinberger shared the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics with Leon M. Lederman and Melvin Schwartz for the neutrino beam method and the demonstration of the muon neutrino, a key advance in understanding fundamental particles. He held academic and research posts in the United States and Europe, including at CERN, and contributed to experimental studies of weak interactions and neutrino properties.
