James Oppenheim

James Oppenheim (1882–1932) was an American poet, novelist, and magazine editor active in the early 20th century. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, he became a prominent literary figure in New York. Oppenheim wrote poetry and fiction and is remembered for his involvement with modernist and progressive literary circles. He served as editor of *The Seven Arts* (1916–1917), an influential magazine that published writers and critics engaged with new artistic movements and contemporary social issues. His own writing appeared in major periodicals, and he also worked as an editor and anthologist. Oppenheim’s career linked literature with reform-minded cultural debate during the World War I era.
