Jean Paul Richter
Johann Paul Friedrich Richter (1763–1825), known by the pen name Jean Paul, was a German writer associated with the Romantic era. Born in Wunsiedel, he grew up in Upper Franconia and studied theology at the University of Leipzig before turning to literature. He gained wide recognition with the satirical novel *Hesperus* (1795) and later wrote major works including *Titan* (1800–1803) and *Flegeljahre* (1804–1805). Jean Paul was celebrated for his imaginative humor, digressive style, and inventive metaphors, blending sentiment with irony. He spent his later years in Bayreuth, where he died in 1825.
