Jennifer Mulhern Granholm (born February 5, 1959) is a Canadian-American politician and attorney. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, she moved to California as a child and later earned degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard Law School. Granholm served as Michigan’s Attorney General (1999–2003) and then as the state’s 47th Governor (2003–2011), the first woman elected to that office. In 2021 she became the 16th U.S. Secretary of Energy, serving through 2025. After leaving the governor’s office, she taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and worked in media and policy roles.
