Jeremy Taylor

Jeremy Taylor (1613–1667) was an English cleric and theologian of the Church of England, celebrated for his eloquent devotional prose. Educated at the University of Cambridge, he became known as a gifted preacher and writer during a turbulent century of civil war and religious conflict. Taylor’s best-known works, *The Rule and Exercises of Holy Living* (1650) and *The Rule and Exercises of Holy Dying* (1651), offer practical guidance on Christian conduct, prayer, and preparation for death, and helped secure his reputation as a master of English religious style. After the Restoration, he served as Bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland.
