Jesus Christ

Jesus is the central figure of Christianity. Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God. The life of Jesus as described the Bible differs to some degree from what scholars know about the historical Jesus. While little is known of his early life, most accounts agree that Jesus was a Jewish teacher from Galilee who was baptized by John the Baptist. At age 33, under the orders of the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate, Jesus died by crucifixion in Jerusalem. According to the Christian tradition, Jesus was resurrected from his tomb on the Sunday following his crucifixion and then ascended to heaven.
