Jim Clyburn

James Enos “Jim” Clyburn (born July 21, 1940) is an American politician who has represented South Carolina’s 6th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1993. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held senior leadership roles, including House Majority Whip (2007–2011 and 2019–2023) and House Assistant Democratic Leader (2011–2019). Clyburn previously served as chair of the House Democratic Caucus (1999–2003). Before Congress, he worked in education and public service in South Carolina. He is widely known for his influence within the Democratic Party and for advocacy on civil rights and economic opportunity.
