Jim Jarmusch

Jim Jarmusch (born January 22, 1953) is an American independent filmmaker whose work is known for deadpan humor, minimalist storytelling, and distinctive music. Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he studied at Northwestern University and later attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he made early films including *Permanent Vacation* (1980). His breakthrough came with *Stranger Than Paradise* (1984), followed by *Down by Law* (1986). Jarmusch has since written and directed films such as *Dead Man* (1995), *Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai* (1999), and *Paterson* (2016). He has also released music with his band SQÜRL.
