Jim Murray

Jim Murray (1936–2020) was an American sportswriter best known for his long-running newspaper column and distinctive, metaphor-rich style. He wrote for the *Los Angeles Times*, where he became one of the country’s most widely read sports columnists. In 1990 he received the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his work. Murray covered major events across boxing, baseball, football, and the Olympics, often focusing as much on character and culture as on scores. His writing was collected in several books, and he was honored by the sportswriting community, including induction into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame.
