Joe Girard

Joe Girard was born in 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. A high school dropout, Girard worked from childhood on, as a shoeshine boy, newsboy, dishwasher, stove assembler, delivery boy, and home building contractor. In 1963 at age 35, Girard started working at Merollis Chevrolet in Eastpoint, Michigan, where he set numerous sales records until retiring in 1977. Some of his personal achievements include selling more big-ticket items than anyone in retail history, and most new retail sales in one day (18 cars). Throughout his 15-year career, Girard sold more than 13,000 cars. Girard is in the Guinness Book of World Records and has published several books on sales, including How To Sell Anything To Anybody.
