John A. Logan

John A. Logan (1826–1886) was an American politician and Union Army general from Illinois. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives and later in the U.S. Senate, becoming a prominent national figure during and after the Civil War. Logan fought for the Union and rose to high command, then returned to public office, where he was known for his advocacy on behalf of veterans. He is often credited with helping establish Memorial Day, reflecting his commitment to honoring those who served and died in the war. Logan’s career linked military leadership with postwar political influence in the United States.
