John Barrymore

John Barrymore (1882–1942) was an American stage and film actor from the Barrymore family, a prominent theatrical dynasty. He earned major acclaim on Broadway for his Shakespearean performances, including *Hamlet* (1922), and became one of the leading actors of the early sound era. In Hollywood he starred in films such as *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde* (1920), *Grand Hotel* (1932), and *Twentieth Century* (1934). Celebrated for his striking looks and expressive presence, he was nicknamed “The Great Profile.” Barrymore’s career influenced later generations, including his siblings Lionel and Ethel and his descendants in film and theater.
