John Dingell

John Dingell (1926–2019) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Michigan for decades and became the longest-serving member in the history of the U.S. Congress. First elected in 1955, he represented the Detroit area and was a prominent figure in Democratic politics. Dingell played major roles in legislative oversight and in shaping federal policy, including work on health care, environmental regulation, and consumer protection. Known for his command of congressional procedure, he chaired influential House committees and was a central participant in major national debates. He remained active in public life after leaving office in 2015.
