John Keble
John Keble (1792–1866) was an English Anglican priest and poet, closely associated with the Oxford Movement. Educated at the University of Oxford, he became known for his preaching and for his role in the movement’s call to renew the Church of England’s spiritual and liturgical life. Keble achieved wide popularity with *The Christian Year* (1827), a cycle of devotional poems arranged around the church calendar, which became one of the most influential religious books of the nineteenth century. He later served as vicar of Hursley in Hampshire, where he spent much of his pastoral life and writing career.
