Jonathan Kozol

Jonathan Kozol (1936–2024) was an American educator, writer, and activist whose work focused on inequality in public education. He gained national attention with *Death at an Early Age* (1967), a firsthand account of teaching in a segregated Boston school. Kozol later broadened his critique of school funding and racial segregation in *Savage Inequalities* (1991), which examined stark disparities among U.S. schools. His books combined reporting, personal narrative, and advocacy, arguing that poverty and segregation shape children’s opportunities. Across decades of writing and public speaking, Kozol remained a prominent voice calling for more equitable schooling in the United States.
