Jorge Luis Borges

Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986) was an Argentine writer, poet, and essayist whose work reshaped modern literature. Born in Buenos Aires, he spent part of his youth in Europe before returning to Argentina. Borges became a leading figure of Spanish-language letters through intellectually playful, philosophically charged fiction and essays. His landmark story collections *Ficciones* (1944) and *El Aleph* (1949) explore labyrinths, mirrors, infinity, and the nature of authorship and reality. He served as director of Argentina’s National Library and later taught literature. Though often associated with postmodernism, his influence extends across world literature.
