Katherine Mansfield (1888–1923) was a New Zealand-born modernist writer and literary critic, celebrated for her innovative short stories. Born in Wellington as Kathleen Mansfield Beauchamp, she later settled in Europe and became part of influential literary circles. Her fiction is noted for psychological insight, shifting perspectives, and attention to everyday moments. Mansfield’s best-known collections include *Bliss and Other Stories* (1920) and *The Garden Party and Other Stories* (1922), which helped shape the modern short story in English. She also kept journals and wrote extensive letters that illuminate her artistic development. Mansfield died in France in 1923.
