Kenneth Scott Latourette

Kenneth Scott Latourette (1884–1968) was an American historian and scholar of Christian missions, noted for influential studies of Christianity’s global spread and of China’s modern history. He taught for many years at Yale University and became one of the leading English-language historians of Christianity in the twentieth century. Latourette is best known for the multi-volume *A History of the Expansion of Christianity* and for *The Chinese: Their History and Culture*, works that helped shape Western understanding of both Christian history and U.S.–China relations. His writing combined broad historical synthesis with close attention to cultural and religious change.
