Khalil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran (1883–1931) was a Lebanese-American poet, writer, and visual artist. Born in Bsharri in Ottoman-ruled Mount Lebanon, he emigrated with his family to Boston in 1895. He studied art in Paris and later lived in New York City, where he wrote in both Arabic and English. Gibran became internationally known for *The Prophet* (1923), a book of poetic essays that has remained widely read and translated. He was also associated with the Pen League, a group of Arab-American writers. Gibran died in New York in 1931 and was buried in Lebanon.
