L. M. Montgomery

Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) was a Canadian novelist from Prince Edward Island. Raised largely by maternal grandparents in Cavendish after her mother’s death, she began publishing poems and stories while still young. Montgomery achieved international fame with *Anne of Green Gables* (1908), the first in a beloved series set in a fictionalized P.E.I. landscape. She went on to write numerous novels, short stories, and journals, including *Emily of New Moon* (1923). In 1911 she married Presbyterian minister Ewan Macdonald and later lived in Ontario. Her work is noted for vivid setting, humor, and resilient heroines.
