Larry L. King

Larry L. King (1929–2012) was an American journalist, essayist, and playwright from Texas. He became widely known for writing the book and lyrics for the musical *The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas*. King was also associated with *Texas Monthly*, where his writing helped shape the magazine’s voice and chronicled Texas life and politics with wit and sharp observation. Across his career he moved between reporting, personal essays, and the stage, bringing a distinctly regional perspective to national audiences. His work is often remembered for its humor, storytelling energy, and attention to the contradictions and character of modern Texas.
