Lazurus Long

Lazarus Long is a fictional character created by American science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein. He appears most prominently in Heinlein’s “Future History” setting and in the novel *Time Enough for Love* (1973), where he is presented as an extremely long-lived human and a central storyteller. Long is often used as an authorial persona or mouthpiece for aphorisms and opinions, and many quotations attributed to him circulate independently of their original narrative context. Within Heinlein’s fiction, he is associated with the Howard Families, a group bred for longevity, and is depicted across multiple works that connect through shared future-history continuity.
