Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was born in the small Tuscan town of Vinci. Little is known about his early life, but at age 14, he was apprenticed to the Florentine artist Andrea di Cione. At age 20, Leonardo became the master of a guild of artists. He lived in Milan for a number of years, where he was commissioned to paint The Last Supper, one of his most famous works. Leonardo completed his best-known painting, the Mona Lisa, in his later years in both Florence and in France. Leonardo was also an accomplished musician, mathematician, writer, and inventor, though he kept most of his discoveries private.
