Liberty Hyde Bailey

Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858–1954) was an American horticulturist, botanist, and influential agricultural writer and educator. Closely associated with Cornell University, he helped shape the study and public understanding of horticulture and plant science in the United States. Bailey wrote and edited widely used reference works, including *The Cyclopedia of American Horticulture*, and produced a large body of practical and scientific writing aimed at both specialists and general readers. Through his teaching, publications, and leadership in agricultural education, he promoted careful observation of plants and the improvement of farming and gardening practices.
