Liz Carpenter

Liz Carpenter (1920–2010) was an American journalist, author, and political aide known for her sharp wit and influential voice in public life. She served in Washington as a speechwriter and communications professional and became press secretary to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson administration. Carpenter later emerged as a prominent feminist and political commentator, writing and speaking widely on women’s rights and American politics. Over her career she combined reporting, political messaging, and advocacy, helping shape how the White House communicated with the public while also challenging cultural expectations for women. She remained an active public figure and author into later life.
