Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry (born March 20, 1937) is an American author known for children’s and young adult literature. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she grew up in a military family and later studied at Brown University and the University of Southern Maine. Lowry is best known for *The Giver* (1993), a dystopian novel that became a modern classic and the first book in a quartet. Her other notable works include *Number the Stars* (1989), a World War II story set in Denmark, and the popular *Anastasia Krupnik* series. Lowry has received two Newbery Medals, for *Number the Stars* and *The Giver*.
