Lord Byron

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788–1824), known as Lord Byron, was an English Romantic poet and peer. Born in London, he inherited his title in 1798 and was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. The publication of *Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage* (1812) brought him sudden fame, followed by works including *Manfred*, *The Corsair*, *Don Juan*, and the verse drama *Cain*. After leaving Britain in 1816, he lived in Switzerland and Italy, becoming associated with the circle of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Byron later joined the Greek War of Independence and died of fever at Missolonghi in 1824.
