Lord Henry Brougham

Henry Peter Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux (1778–1868), was a British Whig politician, barrister, and writer. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, he was called to the bar and entered Parliament in 1810. A leading reformer, he became a prominent advocate of abolition and civil liberties and helped found the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. Brougham served as Lord Chancellor from 1830 to 1834 in the Grey ministry, playing a major role in legal and judicial reforms and supporting the Reform Act of 1832. He was raised to the peerage in 1830 and remained influential in public life for decades.
