Louis L'Amour

Louis L’Amour (1908–1988) was an American author celebrated for his Western novels and short stories. Born in Jamestown, North Dakota, he left school early and traveled widely, working a range of jobs that later informed his fiction. He began publishing in the 1930s and achieved major success with fast-paced frontier adventures noted for vivid landscapes, survival themes, and practical detail. L’Amour wrote the long-running Sackett series and many standalone novels, including *Hondo* (1953). His work reached a vast popular audience and was frequently adapted for film and television. He died in Los Angeles, California.
