Louise Imogen Guiney

Louise Imogen Guiney (1861–1920) was an American poet, essayist, and editor linked to late 19th-century New England literary circles. Born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, she was educated at convent schools and began publishing poetry in the 1880s. Her work appeared in leading magazines, and she became known for finely crafted lyric verse and literary criticism. Guiney also edited and introduced editions of earlier writers, including a collection of Robert Louis Stevenson’s letters. In 1901 she moved to England, where she continued to write and lecture. She died in London in 1920, leaving a reputation for elegance, erudition, and devotion to literary tradition.
