Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball was born in Jamestown, New York in 1911. After auditioning for a chorus line at age 12, Ball discovered her love of the stage, and at 15, her mother arranged for her to attend acting school in New York. In the 1930s, Ball moved to Hollywood and started appearing in films. Ball met Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz in 1940 and married him that same year. In 1948, Ball and Arnaz snagged roles in the CBS sitcom I Love Lucy, which became a huge success and ran until 1957. Ball continued to work in TV and film after Lucy. She and Arnaz divorced in 1960. Ball died in 1989, at age 77, of an aortic rupture.
