Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai (born 1997) is a Pakistani education activist and author. Raised in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, she spoke publicly for girls’ right to attend school and wrote about life under Taliban rule. In 2012 she survived an assassination attempt and later continued her advocacy internationally. She co-wrote the memoir *I Am Malala* (2013), which recounts her early life and campaign for education. In 2014, Yousafzai became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for her struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
